Fossil Dig Bricks

K-5th Grade
$36 per Dozen
A fossil dig block is a palm-sized piece of dried, plaster-like clay with one small real marine fossil inside. The kit comes with 12 fossil blocks, fossil fact cards and brush/chisel tools for each student to excavate their fossils. This is a 30-60 min activity to do at your picnic tables, or to take home as a goodie.

Sluice Mining

PreK-5th Grade
$2 per participant

Not Available Between November-March

Sluice mining is a great hands-on activity that can be done at any point during your patio rental. Sluice mining has been a staple of river mining in Colorado since the Gold Rush in the 1860’s. With a recreated sluice system, students can get a small bag of rough (sand) to clean, discovering a few mineral pieces to take home. Sluice mining is the shortest of the add-on activities, and is on on-site but is weather-dependent.

Backyard Bones: Dinosaur Dig Program

PreK-3rd Grade
$4 per participant
Solve a dinosaur mystery! This guided program is a simulated dinosaur dig in our Dinosaur Dig Site at the Visitor Center. This hands-on, inquiry-based program is gives participants a chance to predict, uncover evidence, and draw conclusions about dinosaurs, fossils, and ancient Colorado. (This program does not include a guided tour of Dinosaur Ridge sites.)

FAQs

Refunds

If Dinosaur Ridge must cancel your reservation due to weather, COVID-19, or any unexpected circumstance, we will refund your rental fee. If you would like to reserve outside of the May through September season, please note that one-third of the rental fee will be non-refundable if – due to weather – Dinosaur Ridge is closed or you choose not to attend.

What’s Included in Your Patio Rental

Your rental only includes usage of the space within your reserved time period for up to a maximum of 25 guests. The patio is an outdoor space with 5 picnic tables available. The patio is not weather-protected and there is no indoor rental space available. You can arrive up to 15 minutes prior to your rental time if needed for any set-up.

We encourage you to check out the Dinosaur Ridge Party-in-a-Bag available for purchase, and you are also welcome to bring your own decorations (we discourage helium balloons). You must bring your own tape or string to hang or attach any decorations or tablecloths you bring or purchase through Party in a Bag. Dinosaur Ridge does not supply these items. You must have the space cleaned up by the end of your reservation window.

Food and Drink

You’re welcome to bring any party food and beverages (except alcoholic beverages) that you prefer. Keep in mind that we do not have a microwave or refrigerator on hand for you, so we do suggest that you bring a cooler and select food options that work well with our packed picnic atmosphere. Water access for the public is available with a hose or bathroom sink, but please consider bringing water for your guests. You can also purchase water in the gift shop.
